Incredibly Important Poker Terms 4
2011-01-11
Hello and thanks for coming by. Today I will define more terms that will matter as you strive to win on money poker sites. I must admit that I am having fun going in order according to the alphabet. If nothing else it prevents me from agonizing over the vast number of choices in the poker dictionary.

The first term I will define is ICM, which stands for Independent Chip Model. If your main game is STTs on a Full Tilt Poker download, knowing about ICM is a must. It assigns a cash value to your chips when there are less than 10 players remaining in a tournament.

There are not a lot of J terms, so I will just quickly define "jam". If you find some free poker training and the instructor says that a jam is optimal, it is equivalent to saying that going all-in is optimal. "Shove" and "push" both have the same meaning.

The next word I will mention is "kill." If you decide to play live poker instead of download Roulette one night, one of your options will probably be a kill game. A kill acts as an additional blind for anyone that wins two hands in a row. A full kill is twice the size of the big blind while a half kill is 1.5 times the big blind. Those that shy away from aggro tables on poker flash sites are bound to like kill tables because they sometimes stifle hyper-aggression.

When someone raises or calls "light", they are doing it with a hand that is relatively weak. Pretend that you are playing on Tiger Gaming and you get dealt T3 in the big blind. Someone that raises a lot in late position raises on the cut-off, and you elect to reraise because you assume he is weak a large percentage of the time. He is likely raising light in his position, and you are reraising light from your position. You will find these situations on a regular basis when playing poker.

Well that was my last term for this entry. In December I will start with the letter M and I plan to have plenty of great examples ready to go. In the meantime, get some experience at the tables.
